2003 president’s award

presented to Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Cape Cod Bank & Trust, and Cape Cod Cooperative Bank

The first BLT President’s Award was given to three local banking institutions for their donations of land and their support of BLT’s efforts to preserve open space.

Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank donated .68 acres in Marstons Mills in 1989, which was BLT’s 3rd acquisition. Cape Cod Five was also thanked for grants that helped BLT purchase the Cobb Boathouse in Barnstable and the Smith and Sullivan properties in West Barnstable.

Cape Cod Bank & Trust donated 4.83 acres in 1992, which became part of BLT’s Marstons Mills River Preserve. This was BLT’s 20th gift of land.

Cape Cod Cooperative Bank (now The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod) donated 5.57 acres of land in 1998, which was BLT’s 59th land project. Located at the intersection of Route 6A and the railroad tracks, many consider this to be the gateway to West Barnstable.

The President’s Award is given periodically to honor exceptional commitment, energy and leadership in support of Barnstable Land Trust’s work.
