Richard Largay

for his many years of guidance, assistance and legal expertise.

Richard Largay had been an attorney in private practice on Cape Cod for more than two decades when he joined the BLT Board in the spring of 1999. His guidance and expertise in land use matters came at a time when BLT began taking on bigger and more complicated projects. Due to term limits, Richard “retired” from the Board after six years but he never stopped responding to our calls for help, helping us navigate some of our thorniest and most complex issues.

Richard assisted in the completion of 77 projects — 622 acres! He was with us every step of the way when we acquired the 23-acre Fuller Farm in Marstons Mills. This interesting and challenging property propelled BLT over the 1,000-acre threshold.

Richard is a member of the Board of Three Bays Preservation and the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound. He served for 12 years on the Board of Legal Services of the Cape and Islands, and was chairman of the Town of Barnstable’s Government Study Committee. A past commodore of the Wianno Yacht Club, Richard enjoys sailing and fishing.

Barnstable Land Trust annually honors an individual, organization, business or governmental organization who has acted in the spirit of our Founders. The award is given “for having the vision to empower the people of Barnstable to preserve the essence of Cape Cod – its open spaces and natural resources, wetlands, woodlands and wildlife.”
