2018 President’s award

presented to carol carter

C Carter_croppedCarol Carter’s involvement with BLT began in 2000, the year she and her husband Len moved to Cape Cod from New Jersey. The couple had bought the Josiah Sampson House in Cotuit (on a whim!) in February. That spring, a BLT board member knocked on their door to ask if they would donate a weekend at the inn for BLT’s Gifts from the Sea fundraiser. “We literally did not know a soul on Cape Cod,” Carol said, “but we were interested in learning what BLT was all about.”

The Carters made the donation, bought tickets to the event, and began meeting people who cared deeply about what Carol calls “the Cape’s unparalleled beauty.” BLT quickly recognized her enthusiasm and energy and asked Carol to join the Board. “We were still running the inn so I declined,” she recalled. “I was pleased to be invited again to join the Board in 2006.” Carol was elected Vice President in 2007, taking over the reins as Board President in 2009, and serving in that leadership role until 2012.

Carol continues to serve BLT as a member of the Nominating Committee, the Founders’ Award Committee, and the Development Committee. She also tirelessly guided BLT’s major fundraiser, Gifts from the Sea, for many years. “I am passionate about BLT’s mission,” she said. “Since I joined the BLT board, more and more volunteers are involved and I feel privileged to be part of it. This award is a great honor for me but it is important to recognize the extraordinary people who have worked with me for many years to make it possible, all the volunteers who have worked endless hours to create wonderful events to support Barnstable Land Trust.”

BLT is thrilled to give the President’s Award to Carol Carter for her determination, years of service and ongoing support of Barnstable Land Trust.

The President’s Award is given periodically to honor exceptional commitment, energy and leadership in support of Barnstable Land Trust’s work.
