Join BLT and the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) for a series of Autumn Hikes in the Town of Barnstable. These will be more rigorous than BLT’s typical Walks and Talks, and will be led by AMC Hike Leaders. Register now, as participation for non-AMC members registering through BLT will be limited to 10 hikers. Call the BLT office at

OLD JAIL LANE #1
Sunday, Sep 14, 1-3 PM, Barnstable
Walk along the moraine and connect to Old Jail Lane and Seabury Farm Conservation Lands. Start from 4 C's parking lot #7. From Rt 6 take exit 6 and go north on Rte. 132. Newly opened areas of conservation land contrast old footpaths through the woods. Meet at Old Jail Lane Conservation Land Parking Lot. Take exit 6 to Route 132 S 1.4 miles to lights at Phinney's Lane. Turn L. Go 1 mile and turn L onto Old Jail Lane. Go 0.5 miles to parking area on left. Meet at 9:45 AM. Two hour hike. LITTLE RIVER

Wooded walk with views of Eagle Pond. Car pool shuttle from parking area in front of Rite-Aid located at the intersection of Rte. 28 and Putnam Ave. in Cotuit. Meet promptly at 9:45 AM. Two hour hike. Leader Farley Lewis farlewis@comcast.net.
SANDY NECK
Saturday, Oct 18, 10 AM - 2 PM, West Barnstable
Hike along barrier beach to trail 4, returning along marsh trail. Mostly soft sand. Bring lunch. From Sandwich Rt. 6A across from Amari Restaurant turn north at Sandy Neck Rd. Follow to end, park in lower lot. Meet at 9:45 AM. Four hour hike. This hike is in an area that is difficult to access if a medical problem arises and only experienced hikers in good condition without ongoing medical problems should attempt this hike. BRIDGE CREEK CONSERVATION
Thursday, Nov 6, 10 AM- Noon, West Barnstable
Flat terrain, cedar upland, maple swamp and salt marsh, bogs, stone walls. From Exit 5 off Rte 6, go north on Rte l49...park along grass triangle on immediate left beside West Parish Church. Meet at 9:45 AM. Two hour hike. Leader Farley Lewis farlewis@comcast.net.
The AMC Leader will be in charge of the hike, and each participant will be required to sign the AMC legal waiver form. The Leader may deny participation for safety or medical reasons, or if hikers are inadequately prepared for the weather. Children are welcome but must be of school age and accompanied by at least one parent. Dogs are not allowed.
Water should be carried, weather-appropriate outerwear and terrain-appropriate footwear should be worn, and all hikers should be aware of the possibility of encountering deer ticks (the carriers of Lyme Disease) and poison ivy while anywhere on Cape Cod.
The longer 4-hour Sandy Neck hike is in an area that is difficult to access if a medical problem arises and only experienced hikers in good condition without ongoing medical problems should attempt to hike it.
The four shorter hikes will have an easy to moderate pace, except as noted, but are not for those who have no experience with at least a two-hour hike. If you are unsure of your ability to participate, please contact the Leader in advance.
