Sandy Neck Flora and Fauna Hike
Wednesday, August 20th, 10 AM - Noon, West Barnstable
Join BLT and Sandy Neck Park Manager and Naturalist Nina Coleman for a 1½-mile hike through Sandy Neck’s Great Marsh and sand dunes and learn about barrier beach flora and fauna. You’ll learn about ongoing efforts to protect and restore these and other sensitive natural communities. Meet at the upper parking lot past the gatehouse. Parking is free for participants. Crocker Neck Walk
Saturday, September 13th, 10 AM - Noon, Crocker Neck Conservation Area, Cotuit
Join Gil Newton, professor and ecologist, on an interpretive walk through the diverse ecosystems of the 97-acre Town-owned Crocker Neck Conservation Area in Cotuit. Flock Walk
Saturday, September 27th, 10 AM - Noon, West Barnstable
Fall is the best time to visit Sandy Neck Beach for viewing wildlife. Join BLT, Sandy Neck Park Manager Nina Coleman and Mass Audubon’s Ian Ives for a 1½-mile hike past salt marsh, dune and front beach habitat in search of flocks of migrating birds and animal tracks in the sand. Comb dunes for Diamondback Terrapin hatchlings that are making their way from their nests to the salt marsh for the winter. Santuit Pond Preserve Walk
Sunday, October 5th, 9 AM - 10:15, Cotuit
Join Mark Robinson, Executive Director of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, to explore Santuit Pond Preserve, 300 acres of pondshore, old bogs, herring streams and pine and beech forests. Turtle Island Walk
Saturday, October 18, 9 AM - 11, Marstons Mills
Join Red Bansfield, BLT Land Management Coordinator, and Holly Hobart, BLT member and history buff, at one of Barnstable's special places - Turtle Island. Located at the mouth of the Marstons Mills River, Turtle Island shelters a rare tidal freshwater marsh and is home to a diverse wildlife population. After a visit there, we will walk up Prince Avenue to the herring run at the other end of the Marstons Mills River. En route are several interesting and historically important homes.
