Historian Daniel Haslam III, Vice President of Walkabout International, leads us on a journey up Lothrop Hill, where we’ll visit a 17th century jail, an 18th century burial ground, and a 19th century customs house. Barnstable Village has numerous historic delights, including the Sturgis Homestead and the Sturgis Library, the Olde Colonial Courthouse, and the Jones-Pineo House (now the Historical Society). Enjoy a quiet moment at St. Mary’s gardens and end at the grocery store near our starting point for a cold drink.
This walk is about a mile long, at a casual pace. Meet at the pillared courthouse, graced by the Otis statues, on Main Street. Free parking is available in the municipal lot.
