Barnstable Land Trust and the Town of Barnstable have 2 properties in Centerville that abut one another: the Andrews Property, purchased with Town Land Bank funds, and Coombs Bogs, which BLT purchased in 2012. Will Holden, BLT Land Stewardship Coordinator, 2 BLT volunteers, Tommy Burgess and K.C. Mitkevicius, and 7 AmeriCorps Cape Cod Service Members (including BLT’s service member Dylan Davids), put in a full day at both sites to get the jobs done.

Work at the Town’s property included general cleanup, vegetation cutting, overall maintenance and trail blazing. The 6.55-acre Coombs Bogs, was a bigger project. Along with general maintenance, crew members removed invasive species, built a huge brush pile (which a neighbor generously offered to burn), cut down small trees and cleared a culvert that had been flooding one of the walking trails.

Thanks to everyone who helped out. We’ll return to Coombs Bogs next spring to ensure that this beautiful site along the Bumps River Corridor remains an oasis for wildlife.
