We need your help to purchase the 8.48-acre Korkuch property in Barnstable Village. $15,000 remains to be raised.
The Korkuch property provides a critical link from the Coast Guard Museum on Route 6A onto the Cape Cod Pathways trail system, which runs from the museum to the Community College.
Time is of the essence! BLT received a grant from the State’s Conservation Partnership Program that requires us to complete the project by June 30th, 2014!
The upland forest, meadow and freshwater maple swamp represent an important part of the village’s historic core. The land, which runs from Rt. 6A to the railroad bed, abuts “Old Salt Estates” – 28 acres of Town conservation land. Access is via a 15’ wide right-of-way between the Blacksmith Shop and Old Jail at the Coast Guard Museum. It is an important trailhead for the Cape Cod Pathways, the extensive network of walking trails that stretches across Cape Cod.
Working in partnership with the Town of Barnstable, BLT will hold a perpetual conservation restriction on the property to be owned by the Town.
Preserving this important parcel will:
- enhance adjoining town conservation lands
- protect diverse wildlife habitat and rare species
- maintain Barnstable Village’s scenic and historic landscape
- encourage passive recreational opportunities by linking to existing trails
Please donate to protect the Korkuch property. Help preserve historic access to peaceful walking trails and conservation lands!
