2.81 Acres in Barnstable Village – April 30, 2014

BLT’s Green Fund enabled us to purchase the Powder Hill Road property in Barnstable Village. The land includes a freshwater marsh ringed with maple, tupelo, holly and beech trees. The property is valuable wildlife habitat because the wetlands are connected to Maraspin Creek and the greater Sandy Neck/Barnstable Harbor Area of Critical Environmental Concern.

The Chester property – the last undeveloped parcel of land on what was once the Barnstable Fairgrounds – was originally purchased by Evelyn Chester’s late husband, Henry Studley. Conveyed in loving memory of her husband, the land is now known as the Henry J. Studley Wildlife Sanctuary and, as such, will stay forever wild.
