Companion Parcel Added to BLT’s Protected Landscapes

4.52 Acres in West Barnstable – October 15, 2013 Pogorelc-300The Pogorelc family – owners of the former Crystal Pineapple on Route 6A in West Barnstable – completed the protection of their family lands by donating a 4.5-acre conservation restriction to BLT’s permanently protected landscapes. This follows the family’s earlier gift of 7 acres north of the railroad tracks – land that protects the site of the historic West Barnstable Brick Company. Both properties are owned by the Orenda Wildlife Land Trust and doubly protected by conservation restrictions held by BLT. Composed of freshwater wetlands and critical buffering upland, the property lies within the environmentally significant Sandy Neck/Barnstable Harbor Area of Critical Environmental Concern and abuts a Priority Habitat for Rare Species. It is also located within a Critical Natural Landscape area and the Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District. With this recent acquisition, BLT is the steward of 1,028 acres in the Town of Barnstable.
