for his vision, hard work and commitment to protecting our waters.
Lindsey Counsell is the Executive Director of Three Bays Preservation, Inc., which was formed by concerned residents in 1996 to address the troubling problems affecting beloved Cotuit Bay, North Bay, and West Bay. In addition, Lindsey’s volunteer efforts have had far-reaching effects as well. His involvement with the Cape Club Project (the largest undeveloped tract of land on Cape Cod) helped save the property in 2002. He has also been involved with the Land Bank effort and the Conservation Commission (he was on it when BLT was born in 1983), and the Sandy Neck Governing Board.
Lindsey has been described as a hands-on guy, giving his time and energy to the Marstons Mills herring run improvements, water quality testing, and BLT’s land management efforts (the East Bay Road project in particular). He has also helped with the River 2000 water quality project and River Day, the popular community event that celebrated the Marstons Mills River.
He has been a strong supporter of BLT since the organization’s beginning. He was a member of the Board of Directors and served as Board president.
Barnstable Land Trust annually honors an individual, organization, business or governmental organization who has acted in the spirit of our Founders. The award is given “for having the vision to empower the people of Barnstable to preserve the essence of Cape Cod – its open spaces and natural resources, wetlands, woodlands and wildlife.”
