Description: BLT acquired 152 acres – all of the natural assets of the Mary Barton Land Conservation Trust. The primary focus is the kettle hole pond for which the popular Eagle Pond Sanctuary is named. This unique habitat encompasses the mature pine forest that encircles the pond and three saucer ponds (including a vernal pool). The meadows at Ropes Field and historic Bell Farm and a rare Atlantic White Cedar Swamp plus the pathways that connect them are also among the assets. Three parcels of BLT-owned land, totaling 34 acres [BLT #25, #105, #121] connect the MBLCT lands. A 183-acre connected greenbelt is now under BLT’s stewardship.
