Chester-300x200Property ID: BLT #142
Grantor: Evelyn Chester
Acquisition Date: April 30, 2014
Acres: 2.81
Location: 56 & 90 Powder Hill Road, Barnstable

Description: BLT’s Green Fund enabled us to purchase this property in Barnstable Village. The land includes a freshwater marsh ringed with maple, tupelo, holly and beech trees. The land is valuable wildlife habitat because the wetlands are connected to Maraspin Creek and the greater Sandy Neck/Barnstable Harbor Area of Critical Environmental Concern.

The Chester property – the last undeveloped parcel of land on what was once the Barnstable Fairgrounds – was originally purchased by Evelyn Chester’s late husband, Henry Studley. Conveyed in loving memory of her husband, the land is now known as the Henry J. Studley Wildlife Sanctuary and, as such, will stay forever wild.

Habitat: Freshwater wetlands
