Description: BLT purchased the 19 acres of woodlands surrounding Lowell Park, the iconic home of the Cotuit Kettleers, and immediately conveyed 3 acres under and around the playing field to the Town of Barnstable. Thanks to donations from 1600 individuals and families, businesses and 4 foundations together with the Cotuit Fire Department and the Town, BLT was able to successfully raise $1.8 million to preserve this environmental, cultural and community treasure and protect water quality and wildlife habitat. The land is situated within the zone of contribution to a Cotuit drinking water supply and is in the recharge area to Cotuit Bay and the 3-bay estuary ecosystem. Lowell Park is at the southern end of an 800-acre open space corridor. The Little River Corridor includes BLT’s Eagle Pond Sanctuary, Bell Farm [BLT #130] and Mosswood Cemetery; the corridor extends up to conservation land west of Lovell’s Pond.
