Protect Our Drinking Water

Attend the Town Council Meeting on August 17 at 7 PM

Due to the public outcry regarding the Cotuit Fire District’s (CFD) proposed 30+ acres of clear-cutting for a solar installation, Town Council President Jessica Rapp Grassetti proposed a zoning ordinance amendment to the Ground Mounted Solar Photovoltaic Overlay District (GMSPOD).

The amendment prohibits land clearing within 800 feet from the outer boundary of any Zone I of a public water supply. It also prohibits clear-cutting in excess of 2 contiguous acres in connection with any single installation and prohibits separate ownership to avoid these proposed amendments.

The Town Council will hold a public hearing on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 7 pm.

When the 30+ acres of clear-cutting was initially proposed last March, no one attended the Planning Board meeting. As a result, members heard no opposition and voted to authorize the project. The item was ultimately withdrawn at Town Council thanks to vocal public opposition.

Please attend the August 17 meeting to show your support for this amendment.
