Ruhl family donates land in Osterville

0.43 Acres in Osterville – June 28, 2016

Ruhl propertyAlthough it may be just under half an acre, the Ruhl Property protects our community’s wetlands, woodlands, wildlife and water quality. The land, composed of wooded upland and grassland, lies within the Wellhead Protection district – the most critical area around 3 of the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (C-O-MM) public water supply wells.

The groundwater beneath the land feeds fresh water to our drinking water and to Sam’s Pond before flowing toward the East Bay and North Bay Estuaries. The wooded upland is also part of a 400-acre greenbelt, which includes land around Joshua’s and Micah’s Ponds, and extends farther north along the Skunknett River Corridor.
