Swift Property: Adding to the Mosaic of Wetlands Protection

2.32 Acres in Barnstable Village – June 29, 2015

Barnstable Land Trust has acquired 2.32 acres of wetland abutting Maraspin Creek in Barnstable Village. The environmentally important land was donated to BLT by William and Catherine Swift. This pristine saltmarsh is an oasis for wetland wildlife, and part of the scenic backdrop of Maraspin Creek as viewed from Commerce Road.

Maraspin Creek feeds Barnstable Harbor and the Sandy Neck/Great Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC), an area that has long been a focus for BLT. The Swift property is now a piece of the mosaic of protected properties owned by BLT, the Town and/or Mass Audubon, which all preserve the special nature of Maraspin Creek.
