Eagle Pond Sanctuary – Cotuit, MA (152 Acres)

Located 1/2 Mile Down Putnam Ave from the Intersection of  RTE 28 and Putnam Ave

The Barnstable Land Trust (BLT) thanks the dedicated volunteers, donors, and trustees of the Mary Barton Land Conservation Trust for preserving most of this land between 1980 and 1995. BLT assumed ownership and management of all 152 acres in 2011.

The Sanctuary is comprised of various habitats such as upland pine forest, pond, river, cedar swamp, maple swamp, field, and more.

Eagle Pond Sanctuary is open to the public for:

  • Hiking/walking
  • Trail running
  • Swimming
  • Ice skating
  • Fishing
  • Small watercraft use (Ex: canoe, kayak)
  • Dog walking – leash only (see more below)
  • Nature study & observation
  • Nature photography

Attention Dog Walkers:

  • We require all dogs to be on leash as this is town law as well as our sancutary rule
  • Report aggressive dogs to Barnstable Animal Control – 508-790-6274
  • Please clean up after your dog

Attention: Swim, skate, and boat at your own risk

Emergencies: CALL 911 FOR EMERGENCIES.

Numbers 1-29 are placed on various posts and benches throughout the sanctuary, please use these to inform emergency personnel location of emergency situations

We do not allow:

  • Smoking
  • Alcoholic beverages or drugs
  • Motorized vehicles
  • Mountain biking
  • Hunting or trapping
  • Firearms
  • Camping
  • Fires
  • Rope swings
  • Littering or dumping
  • Vandalism
  • Creation of new trails
  • Removal of signs and structures
  • Storage of boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, or any watercraft
