Our New Boardwalk and Viewing Platform are Open!
We are excited to announce the completion of a new boardwalk and viewing platform at the Barnstable Conservation Center in West Barnstable. The building boardwalk offers visitors access to the trails around the 2-acre pond behind the office. The viewing platform looks over the pond, which is home to roosting egrets and herons in the summer months and ducks throughout the winter. The Center itself is still under construction, with programming to begin in the spring. An open house will be announced in 2020.
This new boardwalk and platform connects the public to Barnstable’s Great Marsh, one of the Town’s most fragile and important ecological landscapes, and allows the public to experience nature with minimal disturbance.
Because this is a wildlife sanctuary, BLT asks that all visitors are mindful and quiet when using these new structures during roosting season in summer and fall, and that canine pals are left at home during all seasons. Trails are open dawn to dusk. Visitors are asked to stop in at the office before heading out on the trail.
