Robin Smith Johnson, Lowell Park
Listen:
Lowell Park Woodlands Trail
By Robin Smith-Johnson
The crack of a ball!
Cheers rise, turn into roars
when the team scores.
As the crowd quiets,
walk the path around the field
beyond the bleachers.
Step on sun-warmed pine needles,
inhale their scent. Listen now:
a soft whirr of insects, birds.
Another season ended
and players gone home,
a person can find solace here.
When baseball returns
and stands are full,
this path still beckons.
