Twin Brooks Golf Course

25 Scudder Ave., Hyannis

The Twin Brooks Golf Course is a 38-acre open space in West Hyannis, recently purchased by the Riverview School, a residential school for students with complex learning challenges. Barnstable Land Trust is partnering with the Riverview School, the Town of Barnstable and community stakeholders to create a public open space on approximately half of the Twin Brooks site.  The rest of the site will be developed by the Riverview School with housing, a small farm, and other buildings to support their Friends Forever program. The vision for open space includes a park that will be open to the public and connected to Main Street to provide walking access to downtown and the beaches. Walking and biking trails, areas for gathering to picnic, learn and play, an amphitheater and children’s garden are all potential uses. The project will also include restoration of the stream bank areas to bring back native plants, allow for nutrient reduction in the streams, and provide wildlife habitat.

Recent History:

In April 2024, the Riverview School, a world-renowned independent school for students with cognitive disabilities, acquired the 40-acre Twin Brooks Golf Course, one of largest remaining parcels of open space in the Hyannis village of the Town of Barnstable. Riverview School is designating Twin Brooks as the home of its new Friends Forever program, a community hub for Riverview graduates providing the continued support they need to thrive in adulthood. Interaction and integration of graduates with the local community through vocational, social, athletic and arts activities is central to the program.

The Riverview School has purchased the conference center building as well and aims to use the structure for programming as a first step in their vision.

Next Steps and Timeline:

In the summer of 2025, a landscape architect will be hired to create an open space master plan, with the completion goal within a year. The master plan will include a community engagement component, so that neighborhood residents, town staff and elected officials, and other interested parties from Hyannis, can share their needs and wishes for the park.
