on Re-imagining Twin Brooks Development Project

West Barnstable, MA – Barnstable Land Trust (BLT) announced that they are inviting the public to share their ideas about the 40-acre Twin Brooks Golf Course apartment development on one of the largest open spaces remaining in Hyannis. The goal is to generate a community-supported vision that integrates land conservation with healthy, human-scaled development in the West End of Hyannis. Working with the Boston-based architecture and planning firm Utile, this phase of the project will close on November 19.

An online survey is now active on BLT’s website. The survey, available in English or Portuguese, takes about 10 minutes to complete. The public is encouraged to watch a 25-minute presentation first, also posted on the website, to learn about project details as well as view maps and visuals that help to illustrate key features. Both can be accessed at www.blt.org/twin-brooks. The survey will close on Friday, November 19.

The survey and a one-page summary have been translated into Portuguese to encourage local non-English speaking populations to have their voices heard. They can be accessed at www.blt.org/twin-brooks or click here.

Barnstable Land Trust will also be hosting an in-person presentation on Wednesday, November 10, at 6 pm in the Shepley Room at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center, 141 Bassett Lane. The public is invited. Room seating is limited to 45 people on a first come basis. Janet Milkman, Barnstable Land Trust’s Executive Director will be presenting.

The Lennar Multifamily Communities, LLC has a purchase and sale agreement with the owner of Twin Brooks Golf Course site at 35 Scudder Ave in Hyannis’ West End. The developer’s proposal for the site includes 312 new rental homes in 13 three-story multi-family residential buildings, with 468 parking spaces and a clubhouse. Of the units, 10% will be affordable. This will be one of the largest developments in Hyannis and is bordered by two already nutrient-impacted creeks running into the estuary.

“We recognize that affordable and workforce housing are critical needs facing every Cape Cod town. But we also recognize how important it is to protect our natural resources, and that includes open spaces that are currently golf course, ballfields, and farms” explained Janet Milkman, Barnstable Land Trust’s Executive Director. “We believe this an opportunity for innovative solutions, especially in downtown Hyannis where dense development has limited green space.”
